No, this isn’t a post about the single life. I’m talking about mom-dating. I’ve heard, and participated in, conversations about how hard…and awkward…it is to find mom-friends. As adults, it can be hard to make friends in general. We’re not in school anymore, with ready made friends at our disposal to hang out with all day. There’s even such a thing as friend-dating sites, for women who are looking for gal pals.
When you throw kids into the mix, it can get even more difficult. Are your kiddos similar ages? Do they even like each other? Are you polar opposites when it comes to parenting strategies? You know you’ve had that moment when you’re out and about and see another parent that looks like they could be your new bestie. But, it can be awkward to approach somebody.
“What’s up! You’re wearing a baby carrier too! Let’s plan a girls night!”
“Heyyy! Your kid is throwing a tantrum at Walgreens too! Wanna come over and watch Spice World later?”
These may not necessarily be the best mom pickup lines. Unless you’re using them on me. Because I definitely want to watch Spice World. But, if for some reason, you’d rather NOT sound like a Ryan Gosling “Hey Girl” meme, try hanging out at a mom/kid group! Amber Sky offers Story and Craft Time followed by Sensory Play every Thursday starting at 10:30. Let your kids roam around in a safe, judgement-free zone where they can learn and play, while you get some grown-up interaction with the other parents! Of course you’re welcome to just drop in any day, but coming every week is a great way to build friendships…for you and your child.
Amber Sky is a great place to come and spend a morning, especially in this cold weather, when things to do are limited. Hang out with us, enjoy a cup of coffee, and get to take home a cute craft that your kid makes…without having a Pinterest-worthy mess at your house!
