Being at home with kids all day means I have lots of time to daydream, idle, absentmindedly stare off into space and imagine all my deepest fantasies coming true…..hahaha, no, that’s not true at all. But spending all day around your kids does invite the question, “what would you do if you DID have free time?” The answer looks different for everyone. Some of us would read more books, some would catch up on sleep or coffee with a friend, and some of us would choose to spend more time on personal pursuits. One desire often expressed by busy parents is to work out more and focus on fitness and personal health, but our overworked schedules often bump that item right off the to-do list.
Enters Katie McKenzie with a genius idea. Katie runs GYMGUYZ, an in-home personal training business. GYMGUYZ brings the gym directly into your home or office, with convenient, customized, and creative workouts led by nationally certified personal trainers. They make it a goal to work around your busy schedule to ensure you have the opportunity to focus on your fitness. As Katie describes it, “some of our clients are busy working professionals who are struggling to find time to consistently get out of the house to workout. Others are stay at home moms who either don’t want to put their kids in a gym daycare or have trouble getting to the gym on a consistent basis with their kids on tow. We can help them to capitalize on their busy schedules by bringing the workout, motivation, and equipment right to them.” Like I said, GENIUS.
Fitness is especially important for pregnant and postpartum moms, as their bodies adjust to life during and after pregnancy. Katie says, “During pregnancy, it is so important to stay active and strong to help your body prepare for labor. Following delivery and after you are cleared to begin exercise, it is important to ease your body back in to exercise. Your body has been through a major trauma so it is important to begin again with that strong foundation, beginning with proper core engagement. Post birth…women are dealing with a lack of core engagement, Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation), and pelvic floor weakness. It is important to not only make sure that workouts are strengthening these areas but also not worsening the issues.” GYMGUYZ offers customized sessions with trainers specifically prepared to help with these issues. Sessions are available in packages from 10-100 and last for 1 hour.

As Katie herself points out, “Time is often one of the biggest obstacles that prevents people from maintaining a consistent routine. So having the workout come to come right to you makes it easier to stay consistent.” And now that you can cross that item off your to-do list, you’ll have all the free time in the world!
